As the series enjoys renewed interest and popularity across all its games, largely thanks to the breakout success of the TV series, it could be the perfect time for the series to return to its classic style of gameplay. Having made the shift from the series' classic style in the transition from to, modern games have largely found success — but the popularity of certain other games on the market could show demand for the old way as well.

Mortal Kombat 1 has been very slowly dishing out post-launch content since release, adding characters such as Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and most recently, Ermac. It seems that the cat is indeed out of the bag, as we now have a release date and some additional gameplay for the slightly disturbing Gori: Cuddly Carnage. Prepare to skate 'n' slash your way through a freakish feline world from 29th August on PS5 and PS4.

The original Shin Megami Tensei 5 on Nintendo Switch is already a long game, clocking in at around 70 hours if you want to see most of what the RPG has to offer — and its expanded re-release, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, will apparently double that runtime. That is, if you play through the game twice, since Vengeance's main selling point is the addition of a new storyline that branches off from the existing release.

A few hours ago, Private Division and Wētā Workshop finally shared the first trailer and gameplay details for Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings game.

Atlus first teased that it was working on a new RPG with a fantasy setting in mid-2023 — it also said way back then that it will be available sometime this year. Now, the developer has revealed that the game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, will come out on October 11 at a special livestream event. Katsura Hashino, the director of the game, as well as of Persona 3, 4 and 5, also introduced a 30-minute hands-on gameplay that gives you quite a lengthy look at its story and combat mechanics. Similar to the Persona games, Metaphor: ReFantazio has a turn-based combat system with what Atlus says is a «blend of real-time action.»

It took Square Enix around three years to craft Rebirth, and it expects the same kind of timeline when it comes to the third (and final) title in the trilogy.

The Rising Tide, the second and final expansion for Final Fantasy 16, is set to feature some of the game's most challenging combat scenarios. Supergiant Games just treated Hades fans to an extensive look at the game's upcoming sequel. Seriously — the developer hosted a three-hour livestream that showed off Hades II's gameplay, new features and mechanics, as well as the new designs for its characters based on the gods of Greek mythology. The technical test for Hades 2has barely begun, but first-looks at the game have already set feeds on fire. Supergiant Games released a version of the game to a limited number of players on Wednesday. The surreal puzzle game Lorelei and the Laser Eyes hits the Nintendo Switch and PC on May 16, as revealed at Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase event.
