split screen without the split screen
http://hdguru3d.com/index.php?option...news&Itemid=59 While manufacturers are scrambling to improve the stereoscopic 3D experience for home users, Sony are thinking outside the box and have come up with some new uses of the technology. The Japanese electronics giant has registered a patent for what they are calling "screen sharing", which involves different pictures being broadcast to different viewers from the same screen. With the current 3D active-shutter glasses technology, the glasses are synced to the screen to broadcast certain images. Sony have cleverly enabled different signals be sent to different glasses using this same method. This is good news for gamers, as one immediate benefit of the new technique could be for split-screen games, which could now be shown on the same full screen, albeit in 2D. The company has also patented what they are calling "3D Shutter Glasses with Mode Switching Based on Orientation to Display Device", effectively turning the viewing area into a 3D space as well. It effectively means that a 3D screen could alter its contents from different viewing angles, adding big potential for game developers. It's an early flag, butit hints at the huge lateral potential for 3D technology. |
