It's been proven that the Inuit do not have hundreds of different words to describe snow. What they do have, however, is a surprising variety of profanity. Play: =-=-= Mytran Wars (PSP) - Lovely. The comic book stylings of the video sequences are somehow less annoying than in other media that use overlapping still images that way. Having played through to the end of a battle (for a change) I note that there are secret areas on every map a la Shining Force. Do I painstakingly replay every tactical skirmish to scour every little square area, or do I resort to viewing a FAQ? We'll find out later in the week. Phantasy Star Zero (DS) - Did some inventory management and carelessly lost a nice armour unit that recovers HP. If I were ten years old, that would be heartbreaking. I've decided that the way the game is engineered, it's intended to make you go out and find additional players to get over the crazy difficulty in some areas. That would be wonderful if I actually knew any other adult DS owners who played the game. It's an agonising grind to get anywhere in the game, which is why I only seem to pick up the game once in a blue moon now. The car repair game (RL) - The failed part was not a fuel pump! Win! Two continuous-velocity axles were broken instead. Double expense! Boo. Still, it's cheaper than a regular car payment. 315,800 miles on the odometer, baby. Should I spend an extra $200 on a strut tower brace to stiffen up the car now that it's 12 years old? Want: =-=-= Fallout: New Vegas: Ultimate Edition: Colon Delimiter (360) - Preordered a month ago, on its way from Amazon. I'm told that it has a JRPG-styled hub area where missions are assigned? Not sure how I feel about that, although I'm sure that the game still allows you to explore the Nevada wasteland freely, which is what I really want the game for. Bin: =-= Game shopping - This week, anyway. No game shopping until next payday if I've got a four-digit car repair bill coming. Expenditure: =--=--=--= Balance forward - $308 -KKC, who should have made time for Lunar. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament" | |

The only surprising thing about this snowfall is how it *hasn't* caused the entire country to grind to a halt. > Play: > =-=-= FABLAY DREI (360) Or rather, it played itself. You see, when I became King I decided to be a nice King, so kept all my promises and taxed everyone low and various other things. All of which meant I needed about 8 million gold else my people die. How to make 8 million gold? 1) Buy the Blacksmith Level 5 chest. 2) Smith for a while. 3) Buy houses and rent them out, buy shops. 4) Leave 360 on all day to earn money. 5) Reapir all houses, buy more houses (if there are any). 6) Repeat. How tedious. There's no way in hell you can get the money any other way, as even gaining money via rent while playing, the game isn't long enough! Utterly stupid. Also stupid is how you have to upgrade your weapons. Kill *500* Hollow Men? Shit, no. Freakyforms (3DS) Stupid fun. Cycletron 4000 (RL) With the weather turning cold I've stopped cycling this week. Zero degrees is my limit did that Tuesday - it was COLD), so the -2 or worse it has been since, plus the snow, means nuh-uh. Been on the exercise bike instead which isn't nearly as fun or good, but at least it's something. > Want: > =-=-= Batrim (360) > Bin: > =-= Nothing much. > Expenditure: > =--=--=--= Nothing last week. deKay -- Lofi Gaming - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk Gaming Diary - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/diary Blog - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/blog My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that |

Hang on Hang on! We need to discuss someone. I thought Niaz was the
obvious contender, but since you started let's do... Kendrick ======== He's American. Of Chinese extraction (?) Play =-=-= Poker (RL) Friday night we had a _real life_ poker game out here. 11 of us played. 20 euros pp/ per game. And... I won the second one! Yippee! ....200 knicker was won and (mostly) spent the next day though on a birthday slap-up for yours truly. ![]() Battlefield 3 (360). ...Except I couldn't yesterday because I kept getting dropped by EA and/or XBL. My two favourite playmates (of the year) Toad and Trooper were online and we could all talk in a party -mostly in my case, but for some reason I just kept getting kicked out. I _suspect_ it was a problem with EA in Ireland -or XBL in Ireland. I've had such kicks before -months ago. But never anything bad as yesterday. I even resorted to playing... Battlefield 3 Campaign. This was kinda good, but I couldn't stand all the shoot/ die/ load/ go back to the start of the cut-scene. I liked the train-start. Got a little through the next stage before quitting out. To anyone who only plays the campaign... that's not Battlefield 3. Want: =-=-= To be able to play Battlefield 3 again. Hopefully tonight! Bin: =-= Not being able to play Battlefield 3 for a whole day. I even tried it again last night but it was the same. Boo hoo. What they do have, however, is a surprising variety of > profanity. > > Play: >=-=-= Final Fantasy XIII-2 (X360) - Soooo. Given that the whole game is basically a tacit admission that they fucked up XIII, have they fixed it? Well, kinda, yes. XIII was basically one annoying 80-hour-long corridor. XIII-2 isn't; you can wander around pretty freely in the first zone (after the usual drawn-out intro bit), chat to people, admire the scenery, that sort of thing. You get a world map (of sorts) in under two hours and you can freely travel about in areas you've unlocked (subject to plot mechanics preventing you at times). So, on that score, yes, lots better. However, the plot is still nonsense, the characters are annoying as fuck and some cretin had the idea of wedging QTEs into the middle of the tediously overwrought cutscenes, meaning you can't pop off to grab a cup of tea when they start any more. Plus, the fact that it's not a corridor any more basically means the engine can't keep up and so the framerate has gone to shit. However, the battle mechanic is still great (and mostly unchanged from XIII, modulo some minor tweaks) and it turns into Pokemon after a point, too, so, uhm. A cautious "yay", I guess? AssCreed 2 (PC) - Oh christ I forgot this was a modern Ubi game. See "bin" for stupid uPlay launcher woes. I played about an hour of this before I realised I didn't give a shit. It looks worse that AssCreed 1, and they seem to have a new actor playing the girl and her lips bother me. English dude is *so* blatantly going to turn out to be a bad guy I'm not even sure it's worth me playing through the rest of the game. Meh. I'll persist, probably, but slowly. Dustforce (PC) - I want to like it, really I do, but the controls are just pissing me off. ESPGaluda 2 Black Label (X360) - Now this is more like it. Took a while to get my head round the mechanics (besides the normal fire/laser fire+slow move mechanic, there's a thing where you collect gems to build up a meter that you can activate to slow down bullets, or speed up bullets for SUPER BONUS MAX POINTS depending on context, and it's all a bit odd) but it's super good fun shooty times and reminds me why I love Cave so very much. Sorting out the office/studio (RL) - so I now have guitar hangers on the wall and a two-level keyboard setup so I can play at being Keith Emerson at home. Woo. > Want: >=-=-= Nothing much right now > Bin: >=-= UbiSoft uPlay - So, I download all 6GB of AssCreed 2 and click "Play". This being Steam, it reinstalls DirectX again, and I settle in to play. But no! You must now download an updated version of the UbiSoft Enhanced uPlay Game Launch Experience Toolkit Shitbox, which will download at approximately 3kb/s from Ubi's massively overloaded and under-specced servers. Then, once it's updated, you have to create an UbiSoft account - it turns out I already have one, fuck knows how - and log in. And then once you do, you start the game and it tells you you can't play it because you're offline, but you're clearly not, it's just Ubi's shitty servers, again. And then once you *have* launched the game succesfully, every time the game loads the next chunk of content, the little piece of code that checks that you're online gets held up and goes "Ooh! I haven't pinged the server in 5 seconds [because I've been loading the next chunk of content] so I'd better warn the user they're about to get disconnected!". Fucking, fucking stupidly idiotic piece of unnecessary fucking shit that punishes legitimate players like me and gives pirates a better fucking experience. Next time, I will pirate your game, Ubi. Fuck you. Chris |
