I've noticed that sometimes if I leave a controller connected via a play
and charge cable it does this, and stays on some kind of low-powered on
mode until I unplug the controller.

Again, this may be true, but it never did it before the new dash. The PS3
always has, but not the 360.

Perhaps the new dash makes the 360s hotter?!

Yeah, when I had one it did that. But that was ages ago. I've not had one
in years.

We get exactly that. 10% of the time it'll turn off, 80% of the time it'll
turn off if we remove the cable after 5 seconds and put it back in, 10% of
the time we have to play the hokey cokey with the cable for a few minutes
to get it to turn off.

I never use a cable, though.
