Xbox 720 to be 6 times more powerful than 360
WiiU to be 2 times more powerful than 360 PS4 ?? Will Apple join the home console format quietly via AppleTV? Is it wise to release a new console in the current economical climate? Will we see a big graphical leap or will it just be a box that is used to converge tv, movies, music, gaming & internet onto one device? Like this gen I will happily sit back and wait before deciding what to buy it took me nearly 3 years after the 360 was released before I purchased mine. -- gospvg [..getting old and still playing video games..] http://www.gospvg.com |

I was hoping that the mainstream press would be more able to report on the technology of game systems by now, but they're not. If the 360 successor is six times more powerful, does that mean I have six times as much fun playing? It's about the games, not the technology. They keep asking the wrong questions and taking the press info at face value. >Will we see a big graphical leap or will it just be a box that is used to >converge tv, movies, music, gaming & internet onto one device? This I hope they don't do. I don't want to be required to rent my Xbox from the local cable or satellite company, and if I do I don't want to be locked down only to games that I bought from them. I don't need my waffle iron also to be a weather radio. -KKC, weighing the advantages of a Cisco Pix firewall installed at home. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament" | |

My own thoughts are... 6 times more powerful. What does that mean? It'll be capable of 6480P? It'll draw 6 times as much power from my socket? It will be nice to be able to finally come near to current high-end PC resolutions and lots of sprites onscreen at once -and probably lots more online players... basically a current high-end PC in a console box. I have no doubt it'll go well. As long as they keep the price below say £450 at launch, including Kinect-like features. Also they need to allow games use 'controller+Kinect' to have people ducking to avoid onscreen obstacles while they move with the controller, etc. -Kevin. |

Also, high fi audio in games. The low bitrate audio in supposedly premium games like Gears of War sounds dreadful. > Will we see a big graphical leap or will it just be a box that is used to > converge tv, movies, music, gaming & internet onto one device? I have a feeling Sony are going to release a new handheld soon....just a hunch.. > Will Apple join the home console format quietly via AppleTV? > Is it wise to release a new console in the current economical climate? Whether it is or not, I'd really like it to happen. Nothing consolidates a community better than a complete absence of alternatives. My fondest memories of the 360 are DOA4 sessions and COD2 sessions with 12 people I actually knew, every damned night. Didn't matter what games we played, we just played the only one that was out at the time. Nowadays, I can look on xbox.com and see all the people I used to play with, all playing different stuff or in little groups of two or three playing the same games they have for years. It's saddening to see. > Will we see a big graphical leap or will it just be a box that is used to > converge tv, movies, music, gaming & internet onto one device? Definitely a graphical leap. I think the services and media consolidation side of things will continue to trickle out in a way that straddles the generations. Personally, I'd be happy with the best of today's IQ at 1080p/60fps, which should be more than doable and would obviously eradicate the feeble excuses from developers about the increased cost of videogame creation forcing them to bumrape us all with £10 console premiums when the cheaper PC versions actually look way better anyway. > Like this gen I will happily sit back and wait before deciding what to buy > it took me nearly 3 years after the 360 was released before I purchased > mine. I can see me waiting on the next xbox if there's still a cost to play online. I'd also be interested to see if Sony eventually expand their Plus service to include acces to online gaming. The only time they can really do that is on the leap to a new generation and I imagine the only thing that would stop them is the feeling that they might not get away with it. Thing is, I go through games quickly enough that I'll probably be hanging out of my pants for a new console by the time they arrive. I see queueing up at midnight in my future. At least twice. |
