Well, 8 days after I reported the 'problem' to MS it looks like it has been
resolved. Late last night I got an email from them telling me how to go about recovering the account. I've not done this yet so tomorrow I could well be bitching about how nothing works etc. I got another free month of live to add to the free month they sent when I reported the incident and a code for 1500 points to replace what was nicked. They also say in the email that no fraudulent purchases were made which I assume means I won't see anything on my CC bill. The CC on account had expired in 2005 so I don't feel any responsibility for any transactions anyway. If you allow charges on an expired 7 years ago card that's your own problem. I'll check it all out tonight and report back if all is well. I'll check to see if those FIFA achievements have been wiped too but I suspect that will be another call to MS at the weekend. -- WCZ |

Not sure why mine seems to have jumped the queue unless it was simpler to sort out than others. Maybe because I lost access to the Windows Live account it made things easier. I guess MS could see when the changes were made and what was changed and no sane person would change all the details at the same time! -- WCZ |

I still keep an eye out for suspicious FIFA achievements. I'm never going to get any of those by myself. |

Be good to get the whole thing back though and forget about it. I don't really mind if the FIFA12 achievements stay as it'll serve as a reminder to use mega strong passwords in future. Had it have been a game I was vaguely interested in I'd buy it just to get the remaining 985G. :-) -- WCZ |

My Windows Live account has been recovered as has my Xbox live account. So that's all good. Negatives. FIFA achievements still there but more importantly the hackers security details were not removed from my Windows Live account. I tried to remove them but to do that it wants to send an email to the hacker for him\her to confirm they want the details removed. I've clicked the 'remove all security details' link which appears to have worked but keeps reminding me to 'recover the old security details' if I somehow get access to that email address again. I also can't confirm any of my new security details as Windows Live wants to send confirmation emails to the hackers email address. I think the old details will miraculously get wiped after some undefined period of time. If they haven't gone by the weekend I'll have to get back on the phone to MS. -- WCZ |
