Anyone know where I might acquire a cheap house in Skyrim?
I'm still in Whiterun but don't have the cash for the house there. Is there anywhere else with a cheaper shack where I can stash my smithing and enchanting stuff? I could do with not carrying it around to leave more space for loot. Gus. -- GT: GusTavToo / PSN: GusWho - Sent from a micro iPad |

At 5,000 Septims, the Breezehome in Whiterun is the cheapest house and the most well-equiped for the price. Other houses in Skyrim start at 8,000 and lack one or two of the options of the Whiterun property in exchange for some other feature. There are some areas that look like dungeons or war faction headquarters that are in fact habitable, but the game goes out of its way not to indicate this to the player. There is the house in Markarth that you can live in, but there's an annoying quest that you have to complete to get all the old tenants out. -KKC, whose painkillers are now wearing off. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament" | |

Try not to leave stuff anywhere that you don't own as the game will reset containers after about a month. You could join the college of winterhold, as that gives you a sort of dormitory room...I'm not sure if it's considered an owned dwelling by the player though, and as such you may lose your stuff when the game containers cycle. I know for sure that the few items that are there to start with get restocked occasionally, so it's reasonably likely. There's at least one other way of getting a free dwelling, but again I'm not sure if it's just use of the dwelling or full ownership. It would also involve spoilers. > I could do with not carrying it around to leave more space for loot. By the time you get to the point where buying a house is affordable, the stuff you're carrying around will be affordable as well most likely. I'm at the point now where I simply don't pick up loot unless it's worth more than a grand or is a gem of some sort. |

I'm aware of the 'exploit' ;-) As I've gone down the heavy armour route and I'm doing a fair bit of smithing I don't have much room to carry back stuff to sell. Even then I only get a price less than a third of their base value :-( Cheers for the tips guys I'll keep saving! Gus. -- GT: GusTavToo / PSN: GusWho - Sent from a micro iPad |

I'm currently quite pleased with myself. I just managed to Soul Trap a Sabre-Toothed Cat (my 1st Lesser Soul). It'll be interesting to see if that boosts my next enchantment. Even though I have a spare greater soul gem? Sentient beings can't be soul trapped through normal means.
