Default Parenting With Gareth (PWG 30 Dec 2011)

Been waiting nine months to use that subject header. Apart from an
amount of drinking on Saturday night, we have planned:

Skyrim (360) - Or not, as the case may be. For me this is largely a
function of whether or not the existing 360 can work for longer than a
half hour at a stretch.

Red Dead Redemption (360) - Another recent purchase that I wouldn't be as
motivated to play if the Xbox weren't in a state of disrepair. Picked up
the original disk for cheap, rather than getting the collected DLC
edition.

Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce (PS3) - If the 360 is definitively toast,
then this is the fallback game. I have to admit that I'm not as enamoured
of the play mechanisms as I was with the PSP version, if only because the
HD resolutions seem to magnify the shortcomings of the format. Goals are
still vague and text is still barely readable, which means it's possible
to mow down cannon fodder enemy troops for hours and not realise one is
making no actual progress.

The Third Birthday (PSP) - If it arrives in time. For just over ten bucks,
I'm willing to take a chance with it. I'm also not so married to the lore
and the format of the Parasite Eve games that I object to the genre
change, so I'm hoping there's a decent third-person shooter in here.
There's a strange lack of that type of game on the PSP.

Shopping - An unrelated errand will take me past a half dozen game stores
in Florida that I never have an excuse to visit. This could get expensive.

-KKC, who may also break out the Atari 5200 at the New Year's Eve party.

Skyrim (PC) - trying to finish it up now so as I can park it for the
DLC. Companions quests will remain unfinished I think. I got to the
point in that one last night where it said "go do a bunch of menial
shit for the members" and I thought to myself...I could probably kill
the fucking lot of you right here, right now. There'll be no proving
nothing from your's truly... Then I went off and did the main quest a
bit. That's pretty much all I'm going to do now till it's finished.

Ass Creed: Reservations (PS3) - Hello PS3! How've you been? Got you and
me something to play. It's not chrismas without some amiguous historical
cloak and daggery.

Stuff I bought on steam without thinking (PC) - oops. Most of it is
indie asides, like SOlar 2, and AAaaaAaaAaAAAAaaaaaAA! and Universe
Sandbox and a whole swathe of other games I'll likely never play. The
major titles I bought that I will play are Cities XL, Tropico 4, Sonic
Generations and Hard Reset. All of which are filed under "Asides", so as
I can crack on with other stuff without getting all anxious about loose
ends.

Solar 2 is peculiarly addictive. As is AaaaAAaaAaAAAAAAAAaAAa!

Thriftiest UGVM spender gets bragging rights and a weekend vacation for
two in Brighton. No really, the highest and lowest numbers receive only
ridicule or shame, depending on your demeanor. As we have no standard for
average item price or comparison with games played during the year, it's a
Clive Anderson level of pointless scoring.

I propose we do E totals for the PWB on January 2? I'll happily do the
maths and post a comparison chart.

-KKC, back home late after an afternoon of shopping.

I've decided to only do the Companion and Brotherhood quests as my char
is a juggernaut type who uses one-handed weapons, so she isn't really
suited to thieving and magic. She is a murderer though cos she killed
the old hag in the orphanage (that woman really annoyed her)
When I replay with a different char I'll go through the thieves/mages
quests.
Not even been to Winterhold yet anyway! Got distracted again!
