So how are you all enjoying your festive gametime?


I've played around 2 hours of Zelda Skyward Sword so far. Seems very
good. I know I will enjoy it and it _looks_ like I'm over the worst of
the message-fest that hinders the start of every single Zelda game ever.
I mean honestly _why_ must every word.. scroll.. onto.. the.. messagebox
in an unskippable fashion, telling you the most mundane things. Talk
talk talk talk talk. Unskippable cutscene. Talk talk talk.
Repeat.

Other than that, it's great!

Assassin's Creed Revelations is coming along nicely too. Well again I'm
near the start, but so far I'm liking it a little less than Brotherhood.
I'm finding the streets of Constantinople much more enclosed and
claustrophobic than Rome. Also, so far it all looks a bit dark. None of
the lovely blue skies and open countryside surrounding Rome. Hopefully
the weather will change at least.
Also, I don't think any of the new gameplay devices quite work...
there's a kind of action strategy game in there that looks like it's
only going to get worse. What the..?

Other than that, it's great!


Kids are very much enjoying Mario Karts and Mario Land (3DS). I feel a
bit left out of that, not having a 3DS. Or Mario Kart 7. I did play one
100cc grand prix and came first in every race. It's a little easy isn't
it? Still, it's not as fun not having your own game to unlock. I thought
MK games had multiple savegames ...thinking again though, I don't think
they do, do they?

I haven't looked at Mario 3D Land yet -if that's what it's called.
Looking forward to that... assuming it has it's own save slots.

Other than that, the boy is enjoying Sonic Generations (PS3). Haven't
played that yet either.

Nor has anyone even put on Rayman Origins yet. Looking forward to that too.

I got Go Vacation (Wii) for the wife. It's what she wanted ok? The kids
have been at that all morning. It's massive. Lots to see and do. The
quality isn't _quite_ Nintendo standard, but they're certainly having
fun. I'm sure they'll have rung every last ounce of fun out of it before
Mrs. Gloop gets a look in. I also got her a pyjamas so it's not so bad.

I can't... believe... they... still... do... that.

I can't belive it doesn't impact Zelda review scores either! Trying to
start a 4-player game of Four-Swords and having four people watch that
stuff scroll by is agony.

I only got one game for Christmas: Child of Eden for PS3.
I've just checked the manual and it doesn't use Triangle for play, so
I don't have to disassemble my PS3 controller and clean the milk out
yet. Not had chance to boot it up though: Kids and relatives.

Might fire up the ol' balance board and Wii in a bit.

Thanks to great timing I've been ill and finding it hard to sleep. So at
various times I've been playing;

Halo Reach - still can't get my K/D to a decent level.

Renegade Ops (XBLA) - simple, luscious looking twin-stick shooter with
stupdily OTT voice acting.

Space Giraffe (XBLA) - cracked another level, one day I will make it to the
end

Space Invaders Extreme (XBLA) - I can never get to the end of this but it's
literally a blast

Trials HD (XBLA) - improved a few times and nutted my head against an
Extreme track - the sequel can't come soon enough.

To The Moon (PC) - I love this, An old-style RPG about two doctors
traversing the memories of a dying man to grant him one last wish..

Blocks That Matter (Indie) - quite fun platformer

T.E.C 3001 (Indie)- great looking, futuristic, robot running game,
third-person view, can get very, very fast and challenging.

Oldest boy got skyward sword and played a couple of hours yesterday.
Interestingly, he's currently sitting playing skyrim. Middle boy has played
about an hour of dead island on pc and is currently playing saints row the

I played Mario 3D Land earlier. I'm now fully and finally convinced I
see absolutely no benefit to 3D gaming or movies. I was always pretty
sceptical with this latest tranche of hard-pushed 3Dness, but I was
allowing for the possibility I might one day see something that's worthy
of 3D as opposed the plain ole 2 I know and love.

Nope. Does nothing for me except separate me further from what I'm
seeing by giving everything a layered look. Nothing more. 3D in 3DS will
remain steadfastly off in future.

Great game that M3L though!
