Been playing for almost two hours.

All I can say, is "wut?"

Think of it as a PC RPG. You have to learn the rules as you go, and all
the tropes and conventions of a JRPG go out the window. Also, you can't
revert to an old save because it continuously autosaves, so once you make
a mistake you're stuck with it unless you start a new character. It's
entertainingly brutal, like a chest wax.

-KKC, who needs to pick up the soundtrack.

But there's a guy I can't even get close to killing, can't improve my
weapons because I don't have some item or other, and keep having to play
the same bit over and over and over without it getting easier and with an
ever depleting number of healing items.

And messages keep telling me to do things, so I do, and die.

Greatest game of this console generation.

Take it easy, move slowly and keep yer shield up. Don't fight anything you
can't kill. Get a shield with 100% physical block. They're a common drop,
IIRC.

And yes, it gets harder the more you die in some ways, because you lose
consumables in the fight. So try not to die, eh? Keep munching that grass.

I'm feeling right nostalgic for Dark Souls now.

Oh, and don't believe everything you read.

But I have no choice. There's nowhere else to go!

The only shield I've found appears to be worse than the one I started with.

Yeah, easier said than done when you're a one-hit-kill and your shield
seems to make no difference.

What area are you in?

You'll get such a rush when you do it. Best game ever.

Did the tutorial. Died when a huge thing killed me.

Went to the Nexus. Got told to touch an archstone, so did and went to
outside a castle. Worked my way up to the battlements, where a heavily
armoured guy with glowy eyes sliced me down in one hit.

Repeated castle bit. Died in the same way.

Then learn to parry or learn to run like a girl (a legitimate and
useful tactic in this game). Go past the guy with the blue eyes and down
the stairs. If you get clear enough of him, he'll de-aggro and go back
to standing in front of the fogged doorway.
