Not the first time round, I hasten to add. This would have been about 1975 or thereabouts, and as a five year old I didn't have a fecking clue what was going on. At my age there are still sections of that film where I don't have a clue what is going on. Doesn't stop me enjoying it, though! I'm really not sure if I remember my first cinema visit. It may have been Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, or Home Alone. Maybe He-Man. Yeah, I think it was probably He-Man. -- -Toby Add the word afiduluminag to the subject to circumvent my email filters. |

Yeah, I think it was probably He-Man. Actually, it might have been Stepping Out, starring Liza Minelli. As a five year old in 1975 I didn't have a fecking clue how it was supposed to be any good and as a 41 year old in 2011 I still don't. Incidentally, imdb says it was released in 1973 but now I look more carefully (hard to find anything on imdb since they improved it) I see it was released in Ireland on 31st of March 1974, which would've made me 4, assuming that was when I saw it. The first film I saw in the cinema that I actually enjoyed was Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings, which I think was released here in 1979. I saw that 5 times in the cinema, bringing (mostly) different adults along each time. Then again I saw everything at least 3 times back then. I remember seeing Jaws in the cinema -not first time around, but it was re-released in a double-bill with Jaws 2 a few years later. I was under-age but snuck in. Had nightmares about the decapitated head for a while after. These days my son would laugh at that. There's progress for ya. -Kevin. |
