The 360 dvd drive tends to stick occasionally when pressing the open/close
button on the console. This only happens when switching the machine on, my solution at the moment is to hold up the dvd drive from the bottom edge and then press the button. Any permanent fixes? -- gospvg [..getting old and still playing video games..] http://www.gospvg.com |

You sure it's the drive? I've only seen that in the field once, and it was related to a mis-aligned faceplate. There's not a lot of tolerance there, especially if you've got a third-party plate with the naughty picture inserts. Obviously none of that diagnosis applies to the 360 slim unit. -KKC, who makes 'Naughty Picture Insert' his new punk band name. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament" | |

I have the standard 360 faceplate, I am looking for an excuse to buy a nice new black 360 slim but not yet I have spent too much in the last few months on gaming. -- gospvg [..getting old and still playing video games..] http://www.gospvg.com |

For the belt, either buy a replacement (can't find the link, but it's a generic belt - google will help), or temporarily "recondition" it by dropping it into very hot water. For the magnet, stick a small ring (like a washer) of non-metallic material over the magnet, so that it reduces the effective strength of the magnet by holding it further away from the nylon/steel locating disc. I use cardboard from an egg-box carton with superglue to hold it in place. There are tutorials available, but I haven't saved the links to any of them so you'll have to do a search. For the magnet fix there's a Youtube video - it's actually for a 360 sticking drive fix, but the problem and solution are identical. The telltale sign of it being the magnet is a loud clunk as the drive closes. That's been the problem on the 4 sticky drives I've repaired. The other telltale sign is if the drive works fine if you leave a CD or DVD in it, and of course that provides a neat temporary solution to the problem - leave a blank disc (or one of the clear plastic protectors that comes with disc stacks) in the drive. " Will test this evening to see if it is magnet or belt. -- gospvg [..getting old and still playing video games..] http://www.gospvg.com |
