But as an action RPG it has a number of original play concepts that have not been imitated. Use of the shoulder buttons to affect the fight in the upper screen as you use the face buttons to control the lower screen directly ends up being challenging at first, but becomes automatic over time as you learn to divide your attention. The setting is also unique, but less interesting now that it's arguably out of date. If you have to categorise it, put it in with The Last Remnant and Third Birthday as interesting Square/Enix experiments that likely won't be repeated. If you can find it for cheap it's worth experiencing, but you won't go back to it again and again. -KKC, hoping noone notices Arena on the screen during the meeting. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament"

I'd guess it would be >available used at various places. The World Ends With You is one of those few Square/Enix titles that wasn't overproduced. The Akihabara setting and the oddball localisation choices made it more clearly a risk than, say, Drakengard. You may find that American-region copies are strangely more easily obtained. -KKC, who should sign off of work now and go play Skyrim. -- -- "Step 8: Make a list of all the persons I | kendrick have harmed, and file them alphabetically | @io-nyc.com for ease of reference." | - David Javerbaum, "The Last Testament"

The combat mechanic was kind of bewildering, and the hyperactive presentation (think JSR in squint-o-vision) made it really hard to see what was going on. OTOH, it was kind of fun if you got past that, and had some really neat ideas, but ultimately was a bit less than the sum of its parts. Chris |
