Today I bought a Megadrive, with original packaging, in perfect
condition, with one 3 button joypad and one quickshot arcade style joystick. It also came with 5 games all in their original boxes. Everything seems to be "almost new". There was still 2 posters all folded up in the megadrive box along with the instructions and those other leaflets you get with electronic devices. £5.00 Bargain, or a waste of money? Five years ago I would have made the argument that playing Megadrive games on a real television has a quality that can't be duplicated in emulation. But now that CRT screens are not standard issue hardware in western homes, it turns out that plaing on an LCD or plasma screen with a fixed pixel size is more like emulation. So your five pound Megadrive also really needs a hundred pound screen (in both weight and cost, sadly.) I deliberately bought a very high-quality Sony Wega screen years ago that I knew would have a long operating life. On the few occasions that I do go shopping for electronics of that scale, I bring along an Atari 2600 Jr. to plug into test models to see how they handle the old NTSC chroma information. I'll probably be buried with my 8-bit kit. ![]() -KKC, sneaking in Phantasy Start Portable 2 demo time at work. -- --"I think I'm kind of like pennies. I'll probably be buried with my 8-bit kit. ![]() I still need to find the time and expertise to up the frequency of the RF out on my Pong machine so that it lands somewhere between 470 and 862 MHz. (All my TVs only tune from TV channels 21 to 69, and for some reason it outputs at something lower than this.) -- -Toby Add the word afiduluminag to the subject to circumvent my email filters. Well yes, I was attempting to make a comedic accusation based on deKay's otherwise unlikely luck, and you've gone and ruined it with your literal literalness. ![]() Back on topic, I did used to have this lovely amber NTSC monochrome monitor that I would connect the Commodore 64 to. It could have handled the digital output of the C-128, and it was a goal of mine at one point to connect two monitors for the (very few) multi-screen, multi-player games that had been written. Sadly, I never did pick up a C-128 and I keep forgetting to look for one. -KKC, who needs to clean out his garage. -- --"I think I'm kind of like pennies. I think the chances of such a monitor falling off a lorry are somewhat slimmer than finding one in my garage. -- Posted from my iPhone |
